Dr. Luo is a Bay Area-based pianist, educator, and adjudicator devoted to performance excellence and the advancement of music education. As a soloist, Dr. Luo has performed across the United States, Europe, and China at renowned venues, including the Musikverein Concert Hall in Vienna, where she was featured in the “Dandelion” Chinese New Year Concert. As a prizewinner in numerous esteemed international competitions, she has received top honors at the Liszt Memorial Hong Kong International Piano Open Competition and the Chinese Young Artists Piano Competition, among others.
With more than a decade of teaching experience, Dr. Luo has dedicated her career to cultivating musical excellence in both aspiring professionals and young musicians. She previously served as a piano faculty member at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) Community Music and Dance Academy, where she taught pre-college musicians and served as a judge for honor recital auditions and showcase competitions. She also served as a graduate teaching assistant at the UMKC Conservatory, mentoring undergraduate students in their artistic development. In 2018, she was nominated for the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Excellence in Teaching Award by the UMKC Conservatory. With over a decade of teaching experience, Dr. Luo has guided her students toward success in numerous international competitions, including the Charleston International Music Competition, Paris International Music Competition, US International Open Music Competition, King’s Peak International Music Competition, Royal Mass International Music Competition, London International Music Competition, and MTAC Palo Alto Branch Autumn Festival, among others.
Dr. Luo began her piano training at the age of five. She graduated from the Affiliated High School of the Wuhan Conservatory of Music in China and subsequently earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano PerformanceShe went on to receive her Master of Music in Piano Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington, where she was awarded the Artistic Excellence Award, and completed her Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) at the University of Missouri–Kansas City on a full scholarship. Her principal mentors include distinguished pianists Xiaofeng Zheng, Evelyne Brancart, Karen Shaw, Robert Weirich, and Alon Goldstein.
Now based in the Bay Area, Dr. Luo remains deeply committed to shaping the next generation of musicians through rigorous instruction and artistic mentorship.
